Clinical Nutrition Program

Registered dietitians are university trained, to provide evidence-based advice and counselling about diet, food and nutrition.

Our Registered Dietitians provide a wide range of counselling services including:

  • Nutrition across the lifespan – pregnancy, infant and child nutrition, picky eating, older adult care e.g. unintentional weight loss, malnutrition
  • Digestion problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, Celiac Disease, diverticulitis etc.,
  • Food allergies or intolerances
  • Nutritional deficiencies such as iron deficiency

How to Access:  No Physician Referral is Required

  • Physician, Nurse Practitioner or NFHT Clinician referral
  • Self-referral by phone or in person

Program Activities and Services:

  • Individual visits (in person, home or telephone) for assessment, management and teaching related to nutritional concern
  • Group workshops

 Goals for Participants:

  • Achievement of best possible nutritional status
  • Management of nutrition related condition(s)

MASKS HELP PROTECT YOU AND ME

If you have an in-person appointment with a health care provider at any of the NFHT offices, please wear your own mask (homemade or otherwise). Please ensure the mask covers both your nose and mouth. These infection control protocols are to protect our patients and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tick Talk – Ticks are now back. The confirmed number of ticks infected with Lyme disease has increased in Northumberland. If you find a tick attached to you, or a pet, remove it immediately. The risk of contracting Lyme disease increases after a tick has been attached  for 24 hours or is engorged. Speak to your healthcare provider if you need help removing a tick or if you subsequently have a bullseye rash or experience flu like symptoms. There is a treatment for Lyme disease.
