The goal of the Healthy Lung Program is to enhance the respiratory health of the NFHT patient population by increasing proper diagnosis, education and self- management skills for patients with Asthma, COPD and RLD
When you are referred to the Healthy Lung program you will meet with a Respiratory Therapist (RT) who will perform a full Respiratory Assessment, including a breathing test and measuring your oxygen levels. You will receive one on one counseling and education about your disease (i.e.: Asthma, COPD) and you will learn: how to control your symptoms, avoid triggers that make your breathing worse, tools for monitoring your breathing and how to use your puffers properly. If you are a smoker your RT will help you quit, by supplying you with free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (i.e.: Patch, gum, inhaler) to help you control your cravings and teaching you how to break your smoking habit.
